USE OF AFTERMARKET / ALTERNATIVE PARTS ON HONDA VEHICLES

TORRANCE, Calif., March 18, 2008 - The original body parts used on a Honda automobile are designed and built to provide optimum fit, function, safety, and structural integrity.

When collision repairs are necessary, American Honda recommends that any repairs be performed by an experienced professional using a Honda body repair manual and Honda Genuine original equipment replacement parts designated for use in the specific Honda vehicle being repaired, including all mechanical and electrical parts, body panels, and structural components. This will ensure that the parts and components were designed and built to provide the same fit, function, safety, and structural integrity as when the vehicle was initially made.

Parts Warranty

American Honda's factory warranty, replacement parts warranty or extended warranties do not apply to any part other than a Honda Genuine original equipment replacement part.

American Honda will not be responsible for any subsequent repair costs associated with vehicle or part failures caused by the use of parts other than Honda Genuine original equipment replacement parts.

STEEL AND ALUMINUM WHEEL REPAIR

TORRANCE, Calif., June 18, 2007 - American Honda Motor Co, Inc. does not approve of any repair of steel or aluminum wheels that involves welding, bending hammering, straightening, re-machining, reforming, or adding new material.

Any repair of steel or aluminum wheels must be strictly limited to minor cosmetic sanding or polishing that removes just the finish.

American Honda will not warrant any wheel other than an undamaged original or a new replacement part.

REPLACEMENT OF STRUCTURAL PARTS ON HONDA AND ACURA VEHICLES

TORRANCE, Calif., March 22, 2010 - Honda and Acura vehicles are engineered and manufactured to exacting standards and as such, are designed to help protect vehicle occupants in the event of a collision.

All elements of a collision-energy absorption system including but not limited to any structural components such as bumper reinforcement bars, bumper energy absorbers, frames, rails, fender aprons A-pillars, B pillars, and body panels must work in concert to protect the vehicle occupants and maintain cabin integrity. All elements of an occupant supplemental restraint system including but not limited to air bags, side-curtain air bags, and air bag deployment sensors must work in concert with energy absorption components to provide proper timing for air bag deployment.

Compromising any element of a collision energy absorption system or an occupant supplemental restraint system in the repair of a collision-damaged vehicle may have an adverse effect on occupant safety in any subsequent collision.

Therefore, American Honda does not support the use of aftermarket, alternative, reverse-engineered, or anything other than original equipment Honda or Acura parts for the collision repair of any Honda or Acura vehicle.

Further, American Honda does not support the use or re-use of structural components that have been removed and salvaged or recycled from an existing vehicle that has been previously damaged. Although the parts may appear equivalent, it may be difficult to tell if the part(s) have been previously replaced with a non-OE part, or if the part has received collateral damage as the result of a prior collision. Further, the part may have been subjected to severe weathering, rust, or other detrimental environmental exposure.

SALVAGED AND USED AIR BAG SYSTEM COMPONENTS

TORRANCE, Calif., October 1, 2007 - The original air bag system components installed in a new Honda or Acura vehicle have been carefully designed for use in that vehicle, as have new Honda or Acura service air bag system components. American Honda Motor Co., Inc. ("AHM") is confident that such air bag system components will help protect occupants in Honda and Acura vehicles. The installation and use of salvaged or used air bag system components in a Honda or Acura vehicle may compromise the intended performance of that vehicle's air bag system as there is no certainty of the history, quality, condition, or compatibility of a salvaged or used air bag system component.

Therefore, AHM recommends that only new Honda or Acura air bag system components designed and designated for use in the specific Honda or Acura vehicle being repaired be installed in that vehicle. By following this recommendation, vehicle owners and repairers can best ensure that the air bag system in the repaired Honda or Acura vehicle actually will help protect vehicle occupants.

HONDA UNIBODY REPAIR

TORRANCE, Calif., June 18, 2007 - American Honda Motor Co, Inc. makes the following recommendations for repair of Honda and Acura vehicles.

Sectioning Frame Components

When body repairs are necessary, American Honda recommends that any repairs be performed by an experienced professional, using the Honda or Acura body repair manual, and that component replacement be accomplished along factory seams. Failure to do so can result in a number of problems, including improperly fitting parts, noises, tire wear, and most importantly, changes in vehicle dynamics and occupant protection in a subsequent crash.

In particular, American Honda strongly recommends against the process of joining cut pieces from separate vehicles - commonly referred to as clipping. This is not an authorized American Honda repair method. Any problems with other components resulting from such improper vehicle repairs is not covered under American Honda's factory or extended warranties.

Adhesives and Welding

Using adhesives in place of welding for component replacement is not an authorized American Honda repair method. It is important to repair at factory seams using the same procedures as the factory assembly process except where specified otherwise in the Honda or Acura body repair manual.

Door and Bumper Reinforcements

Because they are made of high strength steel, door and bumper reinforcements must not be repaired or straightened.

Replacement Parts

American Honda strongly recommends the use of Honda Genuine or Acura Precision Crafted original equipment replacement parts. Use of these parts helps return the vehicle to its pre-crash condition.
